It’s fireworks season. I’m putting in shifts at our stand between now and the 5th of July, though I’ve only got one overnight shift this year, which is kind of nice. I’ll keep up the blog streak, but expect shorter posts until after the 5th.
Ten Commandments
What is Louisiana trying to accomplish here?
That’s only partially rhetorical, by the way. I know that Christian Nationalists want to advance some sort of “Christian worldview,” but do they even know exactly what that is?
Do they realize that not all Christians have the same worldview?
Do they understand that their “Christian worldview” isn’t expressed anywhere in the Bible? And perhaps most importantly, it’s never espoused by the person they claim to worship?
Nowhere in the four gospels does Jesus ever say to create a government based on the Bible (which didn’t exist when Jesus supposedly walked the Earth). He spent a whole lot more time talking about loving and serving others, and actually doing that.
I feel like far-right conservative Christians are much more akin to the Sadducees and Pharisees than they are to Jesus. He preached love and faith, not strict adherence to rules.
If Louisiana really wanted to do something Christlike in their schools, they’d do away with school lunch debt and make sure every kid had a healthy meal every day in school.
But bringing that up is like saying the emperor is naked.
Still Looking
Still looking for a car. Thursday evening I found a 2019 Malibu in OKC that looked pretty tempting. I talked to Diana about it Friday afternoon and she told me to call the dealership to make sure it was still available. If it was, we’d plan to go look at it Saturday.
It’d been sold Thursday.
Then Saturday I found a 2015 Taurus on Autotrader with just 10,382 miles on it. The catch was, it was four hours away in Arkansas. But that’s ridiculously low mileage for a nine-year-old car, and the photos looked great.
Then I clicked through to the dealer photos and found one of the dashboard that wasn’t showing at Autotrader. The odometer read 103,821.
Oops.
When I started looking for cars and set out my wants and needs, I didn’t think I was being that picky. I want a mid-sized sedan with less than 100,000 miles for under about $12,500. I’ve found a few, but the really nice-looking ones are too far away to justify driving. I’m talking central Kansas or Texas. At this point I’m probably not going to find anything until after fireworks season.
