Welcome Jayme Beddingfield to the blog today. She’s making the rounds talking about The Highly Capable, her new release from Booktrope.
Try to describe your book in one sentence.
Telekinetic Ruby struggles with leaving the positive seeds within her dark superpowered community once she saves a regular who witnessed their powers.
Do you listen to music while writing?
Not only do I listen to music while I write, I pretty much have to. I music as my main transport to whatever make believe the world I need to get to. I make playlists for certain moods and projects in mind.
What are your favorite hobbies?
Well, I’m lucky enough to have a career that is also my hobby. I try very hard to continue to write for myself as well. My other hobbies are reading (big surprise) and training my dogs. I have three dogs that I work with constantly. I hope to be able to have more time to work with dogs with troubled pasts in the future.
What’s your favorite part of writing a book?
I really love the whole process, but I would say my favorite part is during the first draft. My characters and their arcs are so new and exciting. It’s thrilling to me to go through a full story for the first time.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Everywhere, honestly. I can’t always predict what causes a spark of inspiration. My ideas come to me randomly, but as far as inspiration for projects already in the works, I use music and free writing to get into the creating mode.
Are there any particular books and/or authors that inspired you and continue to do so?
Yes, there are some big ones. In the third grade, I read Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson; that was the first book I fell in love with. After I had finished reading it, I decided that I wanted to make others feel what Paterson made me feel. Then I was all about books, reading them and writing them. When I entered my mid-teens, I discovered Sarah Dessen’s books, and they not only helped me through some hard times, they also are a big part of what inspired me to write for a living. I still read and enjoy Dessen’s books.
How can readers stay in touch?
The best way would be my blog, www.jaymethescribbler.com I regularly update my blog with new creative pieces, events, and guest authors. The Scribbler has a monthly newsletter that’s filled with fun exclusives, including a miniseries that takes place in the same universe at The Highly Capable, but two years before.
If you could visit any place in the world or a place created by a book, where would you visit?
Honestly, there are so many fictional places I would love to visit. But, if I had to choose just one, I would pick the Shire in The Lord of The Rings. I think that I would do well in the Shire.
What projects are you currently working on? Would you mind sharing them with us?
I’m currently working on two projects I’m super excited about. First off, I’m finishing up Book 2 of The Ruby Dawson Saga. There will be some exciting happenings, so definitely look at my blog for updates. I also have a coming of age young adult book in the works.
