A funny story before I get into football…
We’re currently dealing with a bit of a cold snap in Oklahoma.
Youngest Daughter headed out to work Saturday morning when the temps were in the mid-teens. She came back in a moment later and said her car door was frozen shut. That’s not that uncommon around here, especially if the temperature has dropped quickly (though it hadn’t dropped that suddenly).
Diana started her car in case we needed it, then grabbed a big bowl, filled it with warm water, and headed outside. Just before she started pouring the water over the door, Diana asked YD, “Okay, you’re sure it’s unlocked, right?”
Yeah.
Those Who Stayed Are Champions
What. A. Night.
Some of us are old enough to remember the RichRod days, and Appalachian State, and Toledo, and The Snap, The Spot, and so many other terrible games. We remember that 8-year run of losses to aO$U. We remember coming into The Game firing on all cylinders only to see the wheels come off the bus in spectacular fashion.
Those memories are what made this game so special.
The game was exciting, because it was the National Championship. It was exciting because of everything the Wolverines have gone through to get here.
The game was bittersweet because my dad wasn’t around to watch his Wolverines win another national championship with me.
It wasn’t quite as explosive as I might have expected. Without a doubt, Donovan Edwards’ touchdown runs were things of beauty, as was Sainristil’s pick late in the game. Just magnificent to watch. The rest of the game was normal Michigan fare, with the defense quietly doing everything it’d been doing all season.
Just an absolutely terrific ending to a great season. NCAA President Charlie Baker really put the icing on the cake in my book with his statement Tuesday, too.
I have no idea what Coach Harbaugh is going to do. He’s supposedly been targeted by the San Diego Chargers for their head coach. On the other hand, he commented Monday after the game that “Told them two or three days ago, we’re moving spring practice back.” That strongly suggests that he intends to stay in Ann Arbor for a while. Middle Son and I talk about this on a regular basis, it seems. While I think Harbaugh has been tempted in the past, I think he wants to stay and try for another National Championship. My gut says that when Jim Harbaugh leaves the head coach position, it’ll be to step into the athletic director’s office. That won’t happen for a while, but I bet that’s the move he makes.
I had occasion to see a picture of one of the winning bidders at VetTix and let’s just say I wasn’t even in the ballpark for that lottery. This particular bidder spent almost 560 coins on his tickets, and I was stunned that he had that many on hand. You earn tickets by signing up through an affiliate link, by answering survey questions, and by taking pictures at events or in VetTix gear, so I haven’t been able to earn many yet. If you sign up through my affiliate link, we both earn 15 coins, so give it a thought.

“Guilt is cancer. Guilt will confine you, torture you, destroy you as an artist. It’s a black wall. It’s a thief.”
“I believe the history of American music is just as important as anything political because it’s changed generations of people.”
“When you have kids, you see life through different eyes. You feel love more deeply and are maybe a little more compassionate. It’s inevitable that that would make its way into your songwriting.”
