Sorry I’m late. Saturday was a day.
Computer Update
Thursday, CyberpowerPC notified me that my computer was assembled and awaiting final QC. That pushed me to make my final decision on a monitor, or rather monitors. I decided I was going to go to true multi-monitor setup. I’m currently using the laptop and an HP monitor. I do most of my writing and editing on the laptop screen, and put my web browser on the second screen. In theory, that makes it easier for me to concentrate on the writing.
It occasionally works that way.
I chose, after a couple of hours of staring at review sites, the AOC Q27G4XN. It’s a 27-inch monitor with good reviews. AOC has another 27-inch with slightly better numbers, but it’s $260. This one is a little cheaper.
I also picked up a Huanuo Dual Monitor Stand. Choosing the stand took much less effort than it did the monitors. I searched “dual monitor stand” and grabbed this one because it was marked “Amazon’s Choice.” Every other time I’ve taken that recommendation it’s worked out, so I have faith.
The plan was to attach the mount to my desk. Failing that, I figured I’d just reverse it and mount it to the windowsill just above the desk.
And Then…

The monitors and stand arrived Saturday. I spent part of the afternoon and evening clearing the desk, then started putting the mount together. The plan is to use all three monitors, pretty much just because I think it’ll be cool. I should be able to, right?

Sigh.
Nothing difficult is ever easy. Or like the old military saying goes, “No plan survives first contact with the enemy.”
The mount I got is designed to attach to the outer lip of the desk. The lip on mine is only half an inch or so, and the mount really wants about two inches.
No problem, I said. I’ll just attach it backwards to the window sill, which is a 2×4. That’ll work fine, right?
Once I got the base attached, I brought the monitors over and set them on the arms.

And then the base started tipping forward. Turns out the center of gravity on the base is too far over the edge of the windowsill. It’d need to be about an inch-and-a-half deeper to be sturdy enough.
Back to the drawing board. I’ll have to mount whatever I get to the wall. The good news is that Huanuo has a wall-mounted dual monitor stand, so I decided to order that instead and return the first one I bought. The new one arrives Monday.
In the meantime, the sunroom is a little cluttered.
