A day late, but it’s finally time to reveal the cover for The Sad Girl. I’m thrilled with what Sam Bagood did with my ideas. If you’re looking for a cover artist, check her out! She was very patient with me, took the time to listen to what I had in mind, and managed to turn those ramblings into what you see below.
It took us about two dozen emails over the course of just under two months. We had set a more aggressive timeline, but things on my end pushed it back some, and she had a week off for vacation as well. I think it helped that I was able to send her a bunch of stuff, including a synopsis, cover copy, and some basic ideas. The more things you have ready when you start looking for an artist, the better the process will go. For back cover copy, I just edited down the query I had written before I decided to go the indie route.
I’m still basically on target for releasing Labor Day weekend. I’ve got one set of lyrics licensed, and am engaged with the law firm on the other. There will probably be a nice blog post about the licensing process. Let me know what you think of Sam’s work in the comments.
Oh, there’s a Pinterest board that’s live now too. Not much on there, but I didn’t think about it until I was into the cover stage. I’ll have others up for other stories as they are developed. And don’t forget about my Facebook author’s page. I promise, no political stuff there!
