I noticed as I was killing time for a couple of days in West Virginia that I was more interested in updating stuff that could have waited rather than taking notes from some of the people I was with. Rather odd, that. Dad used to give me grief about making effective use of my time. Guess I still haven’t outgrown that.
Norman Carr, is one of Albert Smith’s grandchildren. His mother was Edith Smith, the 12th of thirteen children of Albert Smith and Mary Mallow. He recently came across some 8mm home movies and digitized those from the 1966 and 1967 family reunions. At the reunion, he handed out several flash drives with those clips, and I got one. Then when I got home, I stitched the three 1967 clips together and posted them to YouTube.
I have no names for anyone in the film, and there’s no audio. But it’s an interesting glimpse into the family in 1967. The older people are all almost certain of Nan’s generation, though. Of the 13 kids, 4 had died by 1967.
This reunion, along with the rest of them up to 2020, was held at the Albert Smith farm. Compare the aerial shot above with the house as seen in the film.
And I discovered as I was hunting for that shot of the farm that I really need to get better about keeping my computer files organized.
