“Bad breakup blamed in Calif lingerie store arson”
How can you not read on after seeing a headline like that?
Turns out 42-year-old Jennifer Colwell was apparently distraught over a recent break-up with her boyfriend. As often happens in a case like that, she seemed to want to do something to get back at him. “I’ll show him!” she probably said. “I’ll…I’ll…I know! I’ll take all that lingerie he bought me and burn it!” Think…think…think “Even better! I’ll burn down the store where he bought it, so he can’t buy any for that tramp he’s seeing!”
OK, I don’t know that the thought process behind this story. And I don’t know anything about why Colwell’s boyfriend split up with her. But can’t you kind of imagine that internal dialogue? Actually, if you can, I’m a little concerned for you.
I get wanting to destroy stuff your significant other gave you. I just don’t get wanting to destroy other people’s property in the process. It’s funny on one level, but pretty sad on so many others. I wonder how many of her close friends egged her on in this? I wonder if she had anyone to say, “Hey, this is a stupid idea?” Seems like she didn’t, and that’s way beyond just sad.
