I love listening to music. I was fortunate enough to grow up in the 70s when a lot of great music was written. I rarely had the money to bring all the vinyl into the house, so the night shift DJ was my best friend.
I’ve apparently been pretty nostalgic lately because I’ve had a lot of the old songs pop into my head for the last few days. It started with Charlene’s “I’ve Been to Paradise.”
Then I remembered Paper Lace’s “Billy Don’t Be a Hero.” It turns out that, while Paper Lace released it first in the UK, Bo Donaldson and The Heywoods released it in the US, and the lyrics I recall are from the latter version.
And once you hear that one, you have to listen to “The Night Chicago Died.”
“One Tin Soldier” popped up as a recommended video on YouTube. It was a favorite, but I rarely heard it on the radio.
That led to this song. I owned the 45 of “Ballad of the Green Berets.” My junior high band played this in our first parade.
Hope you enjoyed these. What are some of your favorite songs from the 70s and 80s?
