I’m recovering from a really not-fun episode of gastric distress.

It started Thursday and by Friday, I was almost incapacitated. I ended up completely emptying my GI tract, and yes, it was just as gross as you’d imagine.
I spent most of Friday evening sipping Gatorade and nibbling on Club Crackers, the latter of which made me miss my mom something awful. The go-to treatment for an upset stomach in our house was toasted buttered Club Crackers. We always had some in the house from Big Bear, and they were the 2×4 sheets, kind of like the way you get graham crackers. She’d pop a couple in the toaster and just lightly toast them, getting them just warm enough to melt some butter. I’d eat two or three of those with some Sprite and feel right as rain in a couple of hours.
While curled up on the couch, I doom-scrolled TikTok among other sites, and found a bunch of Irish music popping up on my For You Page. One of the clips was Kezia Gill performing “Country Roads,” which I’ve said before is one of my favorite songs. A UK country artist from Nottingham, Gill plays a number of instruments, including the tin whistle. Her cover of “Country Roads” almost did me in Friday night.
Dang, but I miss my folks.
