We’re already a quarter of the way through 2017. How did that happen? Seems like the days are passing ever more quickly.
How did I do in March? Not so great in a couple of areas. And I didn’t write a goal-checking post for February’s work. Shame on me.
Writing
3 blog posts each in February and March. That brings me to 12 for the year, or -7 from this point last year.
I wrote 30,892 words in February (+8,000/26%) and 35,688 in March (+10,800/31%), so that’s a plus. I think.
- Social Media: 13,933/17,661
- Email: 3,341/4,594
- School: 9,585/8,424
- Non-Fiction: 480/887
- Fiction: 0/113
- Blog: 3,553/4,009
The school numbers are going up because of all the critiques and comments I’m writing on classmate’s stories. That the fiction numbers are so low isn’t as bad as it looks. I’m working on editing TSG2 (and have a tentative new title!), so I’m not producing a lot of fiction right now. But that will change once I’m done with school.
Reading
Very little reading done this month. Actually, I don’t think I read anything. I picked up a new book at the writer’s conference I did in March, Mouth of the Dragon, by Tom Barczak. He’s a fantasy writer out of Norman who also spoke at the conference, and I’m looking forward to digging in to this book.
Goals
Still moving forward on editing Finding Angie. The tentative new title is Discoveries. I’m letting that one bounce around in my head for a bit, but I like it better than Finding Angie.
I’ve got several good ideas for more short stories. I think I’ll meet or beat #3 handily. Who knows? Maybe I’ll have enough for an anthology next year. My newsletter subscribers got a peek at the first draft of my school story, “Down a Westbound Road.” They also got to have some input on the next story. Hint, hint.
I definitely need to kick it up a notch on word count and blog posts though. But I’m in the closing days of school, so there’s a lot of work coming up in the next few weeks. I’ve got a big project for Intercultural Communications, a revision of “Down a Westbound Road” for Short Story Writing, and a project for Tech Writing as well.
I’m still looking for a contest I feel comfortable entering. This list came across Twitter back in February but I really haven’t had time to sit back and consider any of them.
Lots of stuff to do. Time to work on my time management skills.
