I’ve been fighting some sort of bug for about a week now that’s just kicking my butt. I missed a day of school because I was coughing so much; I didn’t want to risk spreading whatever this is. I’ve crashed a couple of times in the middle of the day and taken hour-long naps, and I haven’t done that in ages.
Goopy eyes in the morning. Eye-crossing sinus pain if I sniffle or blow my nose. Groggy if I take any cold medicine. Aching neck and stomach muscles from the coughing if I don’t.
The most frustrating part is the almost total inability to focus on anything substantial. I took DD 2 and a friend of hers to a basketball game last night, intending to sit in the parking lot and get some writing done on In Plain Sight, and instead ended up watching movie trailers for almost 45 minutes, because I couldn’t concentrate on the story enough to get anything done. I’m having the same difficulty with schoolwork and blogging. I’ve got almost three dozen blog posts started, but right now, I can’t focus long enough to develop my thoughts and finish any of them.
On the other hand, school seems to be going pretty well. Grades are good, where they exist, and I had an opportunity for a non-fiction book kind of drop in my lap, so there’s that.
Here’s hoping I can kick this thing soon though. In the meantime, enjoy a couple of great covers. I caught the Disturbed cover of The Sound of Silence a few weeks ago on Facebook, and was stunned by the beauty of it. I think a lot of people don’t give heavy metal singers their due, which is a shame, because you have to have some incredible vocal control to be able to sing that high for that long. David Draiman has an amazing range that he puts to good use here.

The other cover is Celtic Woman, one of my favorite vocal groups, with their version of “You’ll Be in My Heart” from Disney’s Tarzan. Alex Sharpe takes the lead, with some tremendous harmonies behind her.
