Finally got my thoughts in order about the Michigan-Michigan State game.
Someone on Facebook said “That’s crushed those kids’ hopes.”
No, I don’t think it has.
I’m not disappointed in the team. Not at all. In fact, I couldn’t be happier with where they are right now.
Harbaugh has basically the same team that went 5-7 last year under Brady Hoke.
No one thought they’d be where they were at this point. Their defense went 13 quarters and 42 possessions without allowing a point. They beat 2 ranked teams, and realistically had beaten a 3d one but for the fumble.
Even with this loss, they’re #6 in Passing Yards Allowed, #2 in Rushing Yards Allowed, #2 in Total Defense, and #1 in Scoring Defense at 9.3 points allowed per game. That’s fantastic. And let’s not forget back-to-back-to-back shutouts.
They’ll recover, and they’ll recover well. O’Neill has done a great job so far this season, and will for the rest of the season. As Coach Harbaugh said, “Welcome to football. Now we move forward.”
I’m much more disappointed in the conduct of the fair-weather fans who are calling for O’Neill’s death or suicide. That’s just disgusting on so many levels. We’re a much classier group than that. Or at least we’re supposed to be. Remember “Champions of the West?”
